Power Transformer News publishes an article on the international Advanced Battery Conference “Batterietagung 2018”:

The global market for battery energy storage systems (BESS) is set to grow by a rate of approximately 19 per cent per year until 2025, a recent study finds, which was published on Tuesday alongside Batterietagung 2018 conference in Münster, Germany.

The annual BESS market volume is expected to grow to 24,5 GWh until 2025, starting from 6 GWh in 2017, according to the CEO of market research firm Avicenne Energy, Christophe Pillot.

The overall market for Lithium-Ion Batteries is set to reach a volume of 490 GWh by 2025.

A research paper from Forschungszentrum Jülich, also presented during Batterietagung 2018, says that in Germany currently are 55 BESS projects with a system size of more than 1 MW in operation. Their cumulated storage capacity sums up to approximately 500 MWh. The main application field is the provision of primary control Power (PCP).

Modern life thrives on the availability of electrical energy. Countless applications spanning from medical to industrial and consumer products have been made possible only by modern battery technology. Albeit both, limited energy density and high costs, sectors such as mobility, communications, renewable energy, count on the development of rising storage performances with regard to price, mass and energy.

Reason enough for researchers, application engineers, developers to join the 10th International meeting, “Advanced Battery Power” held in Münster, Germany, from April 10th-11th, 2018, gathering academia, industry and the public sector. As of today, a good 240 papers have been received and reviewed by a highly-ranked Organizing Committee for both, talks and poster presentations. The latest version of the programme is now on-line (www.battery-power.eu).

With Dr. Christian Danz, Vice President Engineering Battery Systems, Bosch; Dr. Venkat Srinivasan, Argonne National Lab; Dr. Andreas Wendt, BMW Group; Stanley Whittingham, Binghamton University, the conference has already attracted international and renowned scientists and practitioners.

The “Battery Day NRW” preceding the main symposium on April 9th will enable participants to keep abreast with various topics around the basic science and technology by means of a thoroughly adapted series of introductory seminars.
The “Battery Day NRW” is supported by the Department of Economy, Innovation, Digitalisation and Energy of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and held under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Andreas Pinkwart.

From April 9th-11th, 2018, Münster will again be the platform to update on, discuss, and experience hands-on the latest developments in battery technology, research, development and examples of applications.
The conference language will be English. Further details can be found under www.battery-power.de. As the exhibition venue has a limited number of exhibition booths, please be advised that the availability is about to end.
